Run 2298 – 11th July 2011

HARES: General De Gaulle and Lightning @ Terrey Hills

’Twas a bitterly cold night when 40-plus members mingled at the Terrey Hills Playing Fields, showing little inclination to head off on the run. After an eventual late start we headed off across the oval toward Booralie Road. Most expected we would head down toward the bottom where we enjoy many summer runs. Instead we followed a fairly boring trail through a variety of suburban streets and the local industrial area. The runners only encountered three checks which only momentarily held them up. Eventually via Larool Rd , Coolowie Rd and Aumina Rd we arrived at the only interesting part of the run as we entered the Neverfail Gully Trail, for the most part a long wide clear fire trail. Both the runners and the walkers sections included a thick black bog, catching many clean shoes unawares.
The two trails met up again at the Cooyong and Coonawarra Roads intersection. Then followed long straight bitumen roads back up to Booralie Road, and some winding around a few more streets before back to the bucket after 1-1/4 hours. It was too cold for most to stand around chatting for long and they soon departed the bucket to quickly head for the On On at the Terrey Hills Tavern . Here we enjoyed enormous sized meals out in the back blocks of the pub, with much competition for the best seats near the heaters.
Down Downs were given to Gen. De Gaulle and Lightning (hares), Virginus for providing no details of the forthcoming G3 Lunch, Centrepoint for tardy email communication with the Pres., and Penile Dementia for something or other. Humour came from Tic Toc and Wombat.
