Major Disaster and The Lost Tribe – a fine yet inclement run
Google Earth : Run 2282
Torrential rain all day convinced most hashmen to stay home and watch Neighbours.
About 30 hashmen turned up for The Major’s run, clearly it was going to be a difficult trail to follow, however we were promised” shit loads of toilet paper” by the TM.The rain eased as we set off, into Berowra Valley Park, a good false trail or two switched the pack around,Pilko wading through a stream on a leech catching expedittion,Virgin Illiegitimus looked very fetching in a white mountain walking cape, the walkers met the runners half way down the valley on the Great North walk,Short Fuse disappeared into the gloom, valiantly trying to keep up with the runners, never to be seen again,
The walkers, mixed with a few elderly runners descended steeply to the creek, luckily the creek at this point was easily forded, XXXX was spotted, happily rolling along on a mix of his own trails, Music Man came through, on the ascent, calling FREQUENTLY. this helped the following pack to stay on trail as it got a bit ragged on the ascent, the toilet paper held up( due to its water retention capabilities.) !
At the top, MusicMan now carried away by his leadership, led Cap’n Bligh and Chastity the wrong way across the Rifle Range, nobody got shot, across a small stream to meet Pilko, Scud and XXXX strolling home.
It became apparent at the On On that 4 of our men were missing on the run, a few were lost trying to find the amended On On site, casualties were heavy on the ground.
This meant survivors had to eat more of the excellently cooked Lamb back straps.
Then to our relief, ( by this time we were all full ), in came Nautilus, Very Short Fuse, Your Choice and Cinders
.Bare footed and leech bitten, they indicated they had enjoyed them selves, apparently they had continued on the original trail to a fast flowing deep crossing with ( TRAIL MARKED ON THE OTHER SIDE ), so being true blue hashmen they had tried to continue, this being impossible they had turned round and in the dark walked out.
The lesson from this in such bad weather, is that the trail should have been erased, or strewn with check back material, ( they don’t all wash away ).
The other lesson, is that there should always be a co-hare, for many obvious reasons.
In KL about 1968, we had a run laid by one hare, he got lost, the following pack got lost and the whole pack, 38, was out all night in the jungle.
Otherwise a good evening under trying circumstances
