Darwin Don and Bigamist’s – Bone Yard Run
WHERE: QUEENS PARK
For the third time this winter the Posh was forced to fork out good drinking money to cross the bridge for a run in Larrikin country at a place called Queen’s Park; WTFT you may ask? It turned out to be a pretentious name for a part of Randwick. The threatening weather and the distance from Manly moocher country made it very likely that the numbers would be down however a decent pack of over 45 turned up to make sure Darwin and Bigamist wouldn’t have to drink the bucket on their own.
The start for the runners towards Centennial Park ensured that the preconceived notion of the trail going through it enabled the walkers going in the opposite direction to get a good head start whilst runners took false trails and check back after check back before tackling the aptly named Fred Hollows track. A wonderful track of raised walk ways which only those with 20/20 vision could negotiate without falling down and up the many stairs.
Emerging into Allison Road the runners encountered the walkers struggling to find the trail onwards and outwards. By all accounts it was here that the trail was washed out and a number of the walkers lost the trail/plot and made their way home, or if unsure of the way were doomed to wander around Randwick for the next hour before finding their way home. The TM followed through later and with the help of the map made it a live hare run. A few of the runners including Changi, Goon Show, Lightning and Plunger found the walkers trail and made it home early. Those that were left soldiered on knowing full well they were heading towards Coogee and the hills. The check at Coogee oval further split the pack whilst they looked on the Randwick rugby players staked out on the oval for losing to Easts at the weekend. It was also at this point that it became obvious that the trail was going to follow the coastal walk taking those still in the hunt further from home. The remnants of the walkers decided enough was enough and began to retrace their steps for a long walk back to the bucket. The intrepid remnants of the pack including Tic Toc, Captain Bligh, Ayatollah, and Flying Virgin however pressed on but finding themselves completely stonkered in the Waverly Cemetery finally succumbed to the thoughts of a cold beer and a hot meal and high-tailed it home getting back to the bucket after 1 hour 15 minutes. It took another 30 minutes for the entire pack to make it back with the unlucky last few missing out on the bucket, as it had wrongly been assumed all were already in. (See Grape’s dummy spit for further details).
In conclusion it was a great run and it made a change to run in an unfamiliar area for a change, pity about the waste of drinking money though.
Regarding the ON ON it seems that every time we go over the bridge we get pizza sometimes with a side order of Elvis and so it was again, but this time with a side order of potato wedges. The cafe seemed promising but they obviously don’t eat as much as we do on the north shore because the food seemed to run out before the hunger pangs did, leading to the inevitable uproar which even the President could not put down. A token peace offering of another pizza did little to appease the mob.
Down Downs were for the hares, Goonshow for wanting to leave Elvis early to listen to Phillip Adams and Calici for his haircut or lack of.
Humour from PeeDub, Tic Toc, Hanoi Bill and Tweety Pie.
