‘Twas 6 of the clock when members started meeting for the Castlecrag massacre.
A hearty group of 60 athletes assembled in the chariot-gathering yard and put on their warrior clothes. After much chest beating and stomping they stumbled off into the night in the direction of The Parapet …. not to be, came the resounding clarion call of the lead group …. better thee should look down the Rampart and towards The Palisade thence to The Outpost.
Running/Walking along Noonbinna and Minimbah seemed to take a bit off the accumulated excitement of the medieval aspect, and then down Neworra into Narooma made one feel the 12th century had morphed into a sacred site as described by the Guringai tribe.
Then we were ushered onto a golf course and expected to hole in one …. until the Hare found a way up and out of the bushland we were stuck in to …. wait for it … run past his house at 76 Baroona Rd…. so we had in order, Baroona, Gunya, Baringa, Euroka, Kiola Sts to enjoy. Now I knew we were headed for a heap of Abo jokes at the On On. And of course I know you can’t say Abo any more, so the jumping out of the plane joke covered that.
And speaking of that, how is it that such a well organised dinner didn’t have enough space for the Hash? People were crushed in and 15 to a table was the order of the day. Food for 10 was served of course! A bit bland and safe it was, but just getting some to eat was the aim, and it seemed that eventually most had their fill.
I do have to say that this year the wine quality has been exceptional, and every week we have no shortage of good wine to drink. Thanks Wombat.
We had another round of excrable jokes which we all laughed at …. especially the plane joke. Various down downs for this and that, a visitor (Payling’s son), and a female who got 20 offers of lifts home but fled the scene before the On On, Cadel with some more words of wisdom, Music trying to make us believe he went ‘sailing’ in Europe and another great night was had by the Posh.
