Run Report #2302- August 8th – LANE COVE
HARES: God Knows, Lightning and Frenchie
Run to Laughing Ganesha without the Runs!
Early reports had God knows in charge of the following
1. Onon venue
2. A compass bearing for the start and
3. The weather
Well two out of three ain’t bad. Luckily God Knows is an experienced hashman and surrounded himself with a good support team in Lightning and Frenchie.
Just an hour before the start but right on cue, the heavens opened up and washed away the well-defined arrows of hope that Lightning and Frenchie had painstakingly laid only hours before. More importantly, as is nearly always the case, the rain stopped for the run.
The suggestion of a “live hare” was not favoured by the Grape Ape however, Lightning decided to take up the challenge mainly to watch those athletic amongst us run up the two steepest hills in Lane Cove with the cruellest of “on-backs”. Cinders appeared to enjoy the experience and was thankful for the City to Surf warm-up.
From those precipitous hills, cruel check-backs and washed out arrows the pack of 50 fled feet first onto the Lane Cove Golf Course, Runners and Walkers united as one. A call from the front runners beckoned all to take the old Stormwater Tunnel under River Road. Your Choice decided a one and a half forward somersault would be the fastest way through the tunnel. Unfortunately a rather large and jagged rock broke his fall as he was about to land. Degree of difficulty 9, whilst the landing had to be marked down as just 1 as the large angular shaped rock allowed no bounce whatsoever, (shit that must have hurt!). More importantly, Your Choice is still alive and recovering from three broken ribs – What a legend! The Hash would like to acknowledge the emergency support crew of Jungle Jim as Carer and Centrepoint as chauffeur.
Anyway, back to the run that turned into a slow Sherpa climb up the steepest hill in Northwood. Apparently Short Fuse was exercising immense self control and only told one of his fellow hashmen to fuck-off out of the way – the therapy is obviously working!
Desperate for more bush, (aren’t we all) we plunged into the Wantaroot Reserve, (correct spelling Wattaroon Reserve) and then back onto the bitumen where we lost the trail. Enter the “live hare lightning” one man rescue support team who took pity on us, carefully pointed us off in three different directions and told us to “check it out”. As we searched the streets of Riverview for its steepest hill we reunited with other short cutters and headed for the salvation of a good old fashioned home cooked Curry.
Run length was about 9.5km and a rather slow, one hour and 20 minutes – I blame the hills!
Meanwhile back at the bucket, God Knows asked where the run actually went. Let’s hope the curry is OK!
The venue was well measured out as there was barely an inch between each chair meaning that there was a significant overlap of arses. A few unsuspecting local residents quickly cleared the restaurant whilst a generous serving of two poppadums per table of 8 were consumed. Most of us were recounting the generous servings of the previous day’s festivities at Waverton or bragging about the seven dozen oysters they consumed at the recent trencherman’s luncheon. The smiling waiters proceeded to pass on a selection of curried gravies that were consumed like a vacuum cleaner sucking up ping pong balls. Determined to make the feast complete we were treated to a clever curried Ice cream desert.
More importantly, we had some birthdays to celebrate, including Menstrual Man, Salt Peter, Jack the Ripper and others too belated to be rated. For those who embrace the arts, Tooth Fairy has a clever Ballerina daughter that’s coming to Sydney to perform at the Hofbrauhaus or maybe even the Opera House. There was humour, from those expert amongst us including Polish, Tic Toc and even Irish. There was some attempted humour from the floor as well through Last Card and of course God Knows. Down downs to the hares God Knows, Lightning and Frenchie.
Next week I think it might be Hanoi Bills turn down at Dee Why Surf Club I’d guess.
On on.
