Run 2304 – 22nd August 2011

West Pennant Hills Hares:- Your Choice and Coupla weeks

A Bridge too Far, a Shire too Far, or just a BLOODY long run.

I was asked to do the runners report and thought, great, will use names rarely mentioned. The trouble is that once away from the walkers it is the same group every week. So let’s have a No Names report.

The run started with no trail. It was a live hare except the Trail Master was behind us “keep going you will find chalk” he kept shouting. And so we did and immediately into the first Check in Murray Farm Reserve, which I understand is where many of the hash initially went as the directions to the run start were slightly ambiguous.

After a slight pause on we went, past the doctor’s surgery and onto the M2 to catch a Bus. Fooled some but not all as the trail then went under the M2 for the long run up Oakes Rd. It was about here that “No Names” called On On to be congratulated by the Trail Muster for a good call, and was immediately told to F*^K Off.

Winding Rds and checks kept the front runners together swapping places as we went. I even led a couple of times. Then into the bush near Bellamy Creek Reserve and up to the Cumberland State Forest, though none of us knew this. A well laid trail with many twists, turns, dead ends and checks kept us guessing and bunched up. (Great summer running). The only track we did not follow in the Forest was the Great North Walk – or did we? No Names was also heard to state “That must have been the Cumberland State Forest” as he stood underneath the sign.

Out of the Forest but still off track we went heading towards home next to a creek before reaching Aiken Rd when disaster awaited. Whilst walking on the side of the road waiting for a break in the traffic, the road gave way and down I went, blood everywhere. Sympathy – none, even the car I was making sure I missed kept on going. The Misses even said “Serves you right for running around at night”.

On On we continued (No names and myself, as the front runners had left us behind) through Richard Webb Reserve and down to Blue Gum Creek for another check. It was with relief that we reached the M2 underpath and knew we must be close to home. Thankfully there were no homeless people in the dark tunnel to accost us.

The Bucket was finally reached after over 13km and 1.5hrs.

The walkers – I have no idea how they went as I hardly saw them and they were long gone, after almost drinking the bucket dry and were already well into the Red.

Good run – let’s do it in daylight one day to see where we went.

The two Hares, after setting a giant run excelled themselves with a giant feast of minestrone soup (two big serves each) followed by Spag Boll, and cheesecake and ice cream to follow. They obviously catered for every member of the Hash, but only 36 turned up – so should we be prepared for more of the leftovers over the next few weeks before the present committee departs?

PS. No Names – finally found out at the On On who he was as he got a Down Down and is buggering off for 4 weeks.
