THE WISE MEN OF THE COMMITTEE
PRESENTED GIFTS OF GOLDEN MOMENTS, FRANK NONSENSE AND MIRTH
The Hashes from all over Sydney were invited to celebrate a bumper Christmas Party Run at the Maison de Louie. With up to ninety expected, it was on the cards that it was going to be raging evening for all. It was. But not in the way anticipated. About six it started to rain, by start time it was literality bucketing down. Despite the appalling conditions, the majority of the seventy odd who turned up braved the elements for a good part of the Run. That is until they all came to the Creek. Around three o’clock, it had been a gentle trickle over the rocks, hardly enough to get the feet damp on crossing. Four hours later, it was a raging torrent, nearly up to the waist. Likely to sweep away any one foolhardy enough to attempt to cross. Fortunately no one did. All turned back for the Bucket, Port and Fruit Cake at Maison de Louie.
After much towelling down, just over seventy brave souls sat down to a sumptuous repast of turkey, ham and assorted salads, followed by a delicious dollop of Christmas Pudding and Brandy Custard no less. After such a wonderful meal who really cared that it was still raining. Sadly, although there were representatives from most of the Hashes in Sydney, not a single Moocher came to join in the festivities.
It was also a pity that the Wild Weasel from the Not Sure Hash was unable to coerce Pedantic, Absolutely Last Chance Louie and Jumble Jim to take part in a riotous production of Goldilocks and the Three Bares. The dance routine which featured the Three Bares arrayed decoratively in sequined jock straps and fancy garters had been eagerly looked forward to by the packed audience. Pedantic failed to show. Apparently his Manager had “double booked” him for the evening. We are not sure whether he still has the sequined jock strap. Maybe he will give a private performance sometime in the future.
Meanwhile, Last Chance, coughing impressively turned up with a doctor’s certificate and had to cry off. Jumble Jim appeared in his tap dancing shoes. Not only did he run in them, he was ready and willing as always to turn it on for the Ladies. But sadly, one sequined jock strap doesn’t go far, even with Jungle Jim the wearer. Gone Slow did offer to make a belated appearance and at one stage it was thought The Best Of Dick could be coaxed out of retirement. But no.
Very fortunately the Second Act on the Bill, the “Twelve Days of Christmas” performed by just about everyone under the guidance of a delightful Irish Colleen, Mother Superior, more than made up for the previous disappointment. Undoubtedly the star of the show was Captain Knockers-Knockers. And a very enthusiastic supporting cast.
A wonderful evening, despite the weather.
All were most appreciative of Pam and Alex making their Turramurra Property the site of yet another highly successful Christmas Party.
