This was it, Spring is in the Air (you wouldn’t have said that yesterday – coldest October day in 9 years) and you were invited to the Bush!
For our first summer run, so who best to select the bush tracks?
None other than the Lounge Lizard Goanna and the Nocturnal Wombat.
Who knows all the “lizard” nooks and crannies and the “wombat” roots and leaves of the north shore better than these two “fair dinkum” Aussie wild life creatures?
The start of our bushland adventures was outside Chez Goanna.
A smidgen of concrete and bitumen before the runners had a genuine run, with a few checks at the beginning and a few at the end, with fairly continuous hard running in the middle of a well marked trail. This meant the likes of Super, Cinders and Flying Scotsman got back to the bucket on the hour with the stragglers stretching things another 30 minutes.
The walkers trail was supposed to be simple and straight forward but the larger contingent of the pack didn’t get back any quicker than the runners. Seems Major Disaster perambulated off on his own somewhere taking Hanoi Bill with him so they didn’t reappear till 8-30.
The gastronomic delights dished out at the On On surpassed the usual witchetty grubs with angophora root, and kookaburra egg omelette with paspalum salad and showed the culinary skills of our native animal friends.
Yep, sausages and Steak to perfection with a variety of sides. Milady Wombat’s macaroni cheese dish really hit the spot with the Italians among us.
Seems that the Committee stamped its superiority by choosing to dine poolside whilst leaving the plebs to dine with the tools – in the garage.
Down Downs went to the Hares and 2 visitors brought along by Slick. White Shit was charged for being a smart arse(duh!) and returnees Lurch and Krudd received a drink. Good to see Krudd back – manpower!
Humour abounded without Tic Toc. Funnies by Wombat, Wee Willie and Pee Dub as well as by a Slick visitor – Are visitors allowed to tell jokes?
