The Heavens Opened to Usher in the New Committee
Well, there ya go – another year fly’s by leaving DARWIN DON to wait another ten before returning to the front bench. By then the POSH may be down to only three runners and seventeen walkers who can still get around the track carrying one of our four defibulators.
A lot of the “old guard” continue to remain paid up members and, although they rarely show up anymore, one would have hoped that Monday’s AGM would draw them out. Was it the horrible weather or the difficult-to-find location or perhaps an indication of things to come. Still, it was good to see IRISH, TWEETY PIE, PEDANTIC, PHILTHY, POMPIDOU, KING ARTHUR, BUNNY, SAN FRAN, POLISH, VEGIE and a couple of other ‘some-timers’ again.
But did they do the Run you may ask? Based on the popular 2400th from the same location in July, the prospects were good but the “wettest day of the year” soon relegated that question to What Run? Don’t know – don’t care. With no arrows and a soggy, unreadable map, poor SALTPETRE was more at a loss than usual on his final night as Trailmaster. Stoically, he trundled our group around for about forty minutes and then it was home to the Bucket and serious matters for the night. Well maybe not all that serious – we had an English school teacher posing as a comedian as the opening act for the ‘sensational six’ (or fabulous five sans T-T) whose tirelessly rehearsed rendition of “The Old Department Store” left the crowd begging for more.
The Outstanding Effort Award for 2013 went to COUPLA WEEKS and was graciously accepted by his son Alan. From there it was WAGGA ROD who told us about the running feats of our ageless President for the umpteenth time followed by a heartfelt speech by the man himself.
Saltpetre dished out some swank wooden trophies for the Best Winter Run & On-On to E-SHIT and KITTY LITTER and congratulated JACK THE RIPPER and BUNNY; GRAPE and also TOOTH FAIRY for their On-On meals.
