Moving right along, we come to the actual Run on this momentous evening, a visit to Millionaire’s Row in Mosman, which attracted a fair sprinkling of the local inhabitants from the neighbouring park benches and nature strips.
We kicked off The Real Estate Run sponsored by Carefree and Captain Fizz in Prince Albert Street near number 23 (far left below), on the market for $4 million plus.
We then headed for Raglan Street, sauntering past number 77, instantly appealing with a magnificent fusion of 20th and 21st Century styles priced at only $3.5million and opposite was number 72 going equally cheaply for a touch over $4 million. An On Back at the end of Raglan, took us away from the high caloried section and sent us heading off down Avenue Road into the cheaper stuff. A swift Check turned the Pack around, with the new leaders Cinders and Music Man racing off down Park Avenue before they were brought to a screaming halt with a Check Back at an extension of Avenue Road. This turn around enabled Tick Tock to momentarily salivate over 21 Boyle Street towering above him at an asking price of $3 million. Leaving Tickers behind drooling and fingering his bank balance, the Pack took off with Doggy Bag and Caliph See leading the way for a picturesque run along the water’s edge in Centenary Drive, and into Mosman Street. After briefly running down the bottom end of Raglan, with notices asking for “Expressions of Interest” strewn everywhere, the Mob turned into Curraghbeena Road, passing by 3 Curlew Camp Road selling for a mere $6 million plus, see far right above.
After traversing the Sirius Cove Reserve it was onto the Zoo and Athol Wharf Road where the four legged animals had settled down for the night as the two legged variety headed by Wrappers and Captain Bligh noisily sped by. Finally the Run turned into Bradleys Head Road for a long chase home, stopping briefly to admire the “Torrington” a magnificent old 1902 pile on the market for around $3 million, see central feature above. “It just shows you what us Old Piles can be worth,” remarked Hanoi.
After this ostentatious display of Real Estate, it was on to the comic hats, streamers and the Bucket at the Bowling Club. With Fryer-a-Duck at last given the night off and the Club politely refusing The Caught Jester’s offer to provide the salads, naturally all felt the evening just didn’t seem to be the same, despite The French Concoction being his usual efficient self at collecting the cash and distributing the dining plates. Even so, it was great to see how many had come out of the woodwork to celebrate the joint birthdays of Carefree and Captain Fizz.
