Run #2358 at Terry Hills – Cinderalla and Lightning
It is seldom that we have a check before the start, but in this case just finding the start required considerable Hashing skills. Of course there was no such place as the Pasta Palace – cryptic crossword experts had no trouble translating that to the Piedemonte Restaurant. God Knows came, did not see, did not conquer, and retreated unfed. Many others were almost as discombobulated. Here’s hoping he can find the AGM.
The run itself strated with a substantial amount of bush-whacking – a foretaste of the summer runs coming up very soon now. Well marked, the runners and walkers intersected a couple of times, and most were in shortly after the hour. Good run.
The food at the Round The Next Corner Cafe was adequate, though the helping of pasta was a little meagre for some. A new venue is always to be welcomed though.
The On-On itself started in a low key. Jungle Jim’s father of 90 died. It may have been a good innings, but still a sad event for the family. Sorry Jungle, from all of us.
God Knows also rang to report the death of John Gastrell – The Brigadeer – who the older members of this group would remember. Though initially a very keen and good rower, he tried out the Singapore Hash in its very early days when it was only the second Hash in the world. In his later hashing years he would spend only six months in Sydney, the rest in Fiji. A great guy gone to join those other lost hashers.
Being more up-beat, we were all pleased to welcome Goanna back from the brink, or at least from a very serious illness compounded by hospital bugs.
