Run 2467 – 13th Oct 2014

The Ides of Super & BTG come to Terry Hills

The posh arrived in their droves for their free limited edition photo and of course the new committees first summer run set by Superglue and BTG.  The Arbitrator was a welcome starter again with Tic Toc fresh from his Loire Valley et Normandy visite and even Hoarse Whisperer with his Chevy truck turning up after a long break from the Hash – good to
see you back mate!  Nureyev had jet setted back in from his FIFO weekend after making squillions on those CSG pipelines in Queensland.  Meanwhile Changi was winging his way to the trail from his Ryde abode tracking a monster storm from the west regrettably denied the experience by pulling out due to the prospects of a doomed run and running late! – shame Changi.

The pack had gathered under the pony club buildings as some of the erstwhile hash photographers Nautilus, Scud and co were taking their shots before Thor, a recent visitor from Norway invited by Plunger was strutting his stuff in the heavens.  Super was nervously praying that his masterfully crafted & marked trail be miraculously spared from
becoming a torrent of mud and water.  As the rain started Choice, Tic Toc and Calici decided that car metal and hail were not good bedfellows and proceeded to cloth their vehicles with anything that would resist those arrows from Thor.

About this time Darwin called Wanker on the bat phone with a lame excuse that he could not make the run as we was carefully packing his underwear and socks in his new wardrobe and needed the time to meet his impeccable clothing standards – good one Darwin!  The clock was ticking down and there was a murmur around the pack as the impending cavalcade of thunder, lighting and rain was about to descend on the pack – will I or won’t I was the cry as the noise and light show started.  Lightning, flasher and flash lighting were ecstatic as they had the opportunity to live up to their distinctive names.  The others were all gathered in a miserable and pathetic huddle – there was Polly, Jock the sock, BTG, Jack the Ripper, Box Kite , the French Connection, Wrappa and Co Hare BTG and many more who won’t be outed by this on sec ( there was even a rumour that Little Shit was lurking in the darkness to be avoid being noticed for not venturing forth).  Super (without his co-hare BTG who was minding the fort), never daunted by the elements now in full fury, lead the pack into the depths of the unknown.  Off they went- Moishe, Cinders, Plunger, Lightning and son, Your Choice, Benny, Spud ( relieved there was no map reading for a second week) Goonshow the scholar and an elite band of brave or stupid runners and Tic Toc bringing up the rear.

Now a live hare run, Jungle Jim carefully ventured out with his lighting rod umbrella and with a true mathematical assessment decided that self- preservation was the order of the day and returned back to the rump where the pack, still pathetically huddled pack cheek by jowl, were under cover keeping very dry.  Super lead the pack north towards the archery club building and skirted the eastern side of the reserve with all those skillfully marked arrows now just a fastly disappearing memory.  With truly “slippery slope” conditions the pack led by Moishe and Cinders gingerly made their way via a shortened trail, coming out
on Kamber Road.  It was about this time that some profanities were heard in the Choice direction as he went A over T and twisted his ankle – fortunately he was the only casualty of the night.

After 30 minutes or less the pack were back at the Pony Club HQ about the same time as the storm had now abated. By this time Scud and Centrepoint were into the red while President PeeDub, in his autocratic way supported by Ayatollah and Super were organizing the tucker for the night.  It was about this time, that the legitimate owners of the Pony Club arrived for their monthly meeting.  Lightning, sensing an affinity with these horsey people, smoothed things down so there would not be a repeat of the “Infamous Goonshow Affair” earlier in the year.  There was Leanne, Karen ,Mike and Garry ( fyi Lighting for future reference) and later joined by Sue who quick as a flash was doted on by Scud offering a red, prior to his extolling the virtues of the nudes at the Musee D’Orsay even suggesting a pose for the boys might be in order – the girls were very impressed by that while Garry and Mike scowled in Scud’s direction.

The boys were all back by now (minus Choice off on hospital duties and nursing a swollen ankle) as the ravenous pack gathered for the local made Curry – a great feed cooked to perfection by the committee.  We noted that Music and Plunger had invited their old sailing buddy Nigel to the run – but regrettably Nigel was given a Christian name that invoked a response from Goonshow in his Oxford accent – Oh No !- Not Nigel.  Super’s & BTG’s run now a distant past, we settled into the evening with many down downs and excellent jokes.  Apart from the hares, down downs were in order for Nigel, Music Man, Nureyev and the Arbitrator with some humour from Mash, the francophile Tic Toc and Jungle with his appetite and fascination for muffin jokes.  A great atmosphere was present and apart from the elements it was a great 1st Summer Run organised by your Committee!!
