Run No. 2592 – 27th February 2017

The weather or whether to not

That was the question on Monday night. With a road trip half way to Wollongong to get the run start it was a case of whether the weather (report) was on target or not.
A crappy forecast is not helpful on a Monday night, and as it turned out it was totally wrong, so 30 of Hash’s finest trekked to La Perouse for a trail laid by Spud. What would make a Poshman of such intelligence move from the northern climes of Newport to the southern climes of La Pa one would ask? A woman maybe? At least his boat is now so far away he goes on holiday to use it.

The terrain in this area is not the usual mountain menu we are used to so the trail was set in the wonderful coastal scrub surrounding the myriad of golf courses around here. So, there were beaches (clothing optional and otherwise), there were islands (Bare and Bear), there was rock hopping, there were tracks through coastal heather, there were stunning ocean views, there was a lighthouse, there were gun emplacements, and the dreaded tarmac – and an almost cloudless sky under which to appreciate all of this.
Grape Ape didn’t appreciate the bitumen (and let anyone in earshot know) so had the usual brain snap and made his own, long-cut On Home trail thru the bush. Slick, not game to reproduce his antics of last week was seen meekly sticking close to the TM.

As one would expect from a location like this the On On was a seafood affair, not at the salubrious Danny’s but at a wonderful little French (Pari(s)) café. There was an offering of superbly grilled local fish with the tastiest of Greek salads, which Benny the Swede ordered, right through to the mountain of calamari rings and coleslaw that Pee Dub managed to scoff down.

The President called the assembled multitude to order and proceeded to dish out the drinks. Firstly, of course was the hare, Spud, (not sure what happened to Chat?) then it was onto the gongs for last Thursday’s Bluewater Hash Regatta – and what a grand affair that was. Music Man received the winners Down for steering his slippery submarine to victory. Not only a free drink but the latest in sailing apparel which was presented by E-Shit – mustabin advertising. Next up was the wooden-spooner, 777 for leaving his lunch (and breakfast and soul) all over the cabin sole of Pee Dub’s racing schooner. The Pres also took pity on a forlorn looking Wee Willy and gave him a down for just being Wee Willy.

With time of the essence (“have to get all that way home before turning into a pumpkin”- Cinders) humour was held over till next week.
