Cammeray – Bunny Trapper & JTR

Despite the cold, wet and wintry weather, a good number turned out for Bunny and Jack the Ripper’s run from Cammeray. After starting from behind the shops, the hares took us down toward the Northbridge Bridge, many taking bets that we would cross over. However we turned right along Pine Street. Then began the first of many long sets of stairs, up and down to test the knees of the aged and infirm. A couple of quick checks fooled the early runners like Changi, Spud and Foxface et al into thinking we’d go down to Tunks Park, but instead took us to Foley’s Point. Then through a neat bush track alongside Willoughby Bay to Primrose Park. This stopped the front runners again for a while as there was no flour over the park, until the TM gathered them together and guided them over the park to Wonga Road. Although the trail was otherwise well marked with large arrows, the checks though short seemed to catch the runners out each time, allowing the walkers to keep them in sight.
In Wonga Road the runners and walkers split. Up a very long flight of stairs the walkers turned for home via a series of very dark lanes. Wally Grout was obviously very lost at this stage, finding himself amongst the walkers. Meanwhile the runners continued on Wonga St eventually to McPherson Street, and through more bush tracks to Ellalong – some more convoluted lefts and rights before eventually rejoining the walkers trail on Bennalong Rd. and returning home via the Cammeray Golf course in the steadily increasing rain to the bucket
The On On at the new Noodle Hut Thai restaurant tested the staff in their opening week, though not a noodle was to be found on the menu. The food range was limited but was plentiful. We didn’t see the TM for much of the meal as he continued splashing around in the rain looking for Hanoi and visitor Gong from Malaysia, lost somewhere on Tobruk Road.
Strangely Gong introduced Grape to the Hash many years before – when Gong apparently again became lost. Down downs were in order for visitors Gong and Daniel from a Malaysia Hash. Larry Adler earned one for crediting Dr Jurd as co-hare on the website, plus the hares for this week and last week. Several down downs were also handed out for insolence to the Pres. and other misdemeanors during the night. Humour was average apart from one from Wombat. Osama bin Laden (aka Grape) also appeared briefly to scotch the rumour that he’d been killed last week, but was quickly and finally dispatched by XXXX.
