Run 2317 – 21st Nov 2011

MEMORABLE MOMENTS

“ ”YESTERDAY, NOVEMBER 21ST 2011 – A DATE WHICH

WILL LIVE FOREVER IN HASH HISTORY AS A EVENING OF INFAMY”

The Run, commencing, mark you, only commencing at the Seaforth Bowling Club was completely overshadowed by subsequent dramatic events. The Hash, devastated by a complete breakdown in communications, resulted in an unexpected assault launched by wave after wave of Japanese plastic missiles on the unsuspecting staff and members of the Seaforth Bowling Club.

Whilst these amazing events defy an immediate explanation, an attempt should be made to provide one for the record and of course the Year Book. Looking back on that evening, all seemed so serene and normal, even the distant hum of the traffic on the Wakehurst Parkway had soften into a musical melody as the Pack gathered for the Run. It seemed totally incredible that anything could go wrong. But wait a minute. The OnOn ? Gone Slow and Petit Merde were providing a Japanese Special for the evening with drinkies. But where was the Hash Trailer with the comforting tables and chairs and all the mode com of a Hash Run ?

No one who wasn’t there would have believe the drama as it unfolded. That’s Right ! There was no trailer. No tables and chairs. No where to sit. It had been assumed that Chop Stick carnival would take place inside the Bowling Club. An assertion largely unbeknown to the majority of the Committee, the Hash, the patrons of the Club AND the Management of the Bowling Club. It took the significant bargaining powers of Gone Slow to negotiate “dining room” accommodation within the Club, squeezing up their members who were holding their weekly dancing instruction evening. Many discretely vanished into the gloom, faced with the prospect of “seating” being at a premium inside the Club.

After that introduction and subsequent finale to the evening, the lengthy, well planned Run almost fades into insignificance. The Hares made excellent use of the surrounding country providing good running for all concerned with the back-markers coming in after nearly ninety minutes just before the rain started to make an appearance.

It is a pity that this Evening of Infamy will be long remembered for events completely unrelated to the Run.

And So.
