Run No. 2571 October 4 2016

The “not the sub-editors bi-line”Trash – Larrikins 2000th Run

Being that last weeks run was not only a Joint run but another of the Sydney hashes celebration of their 2000th run, it was a night of observations. Notably though the first run of daylight saving.

A very large crowd mingled at the start at Boronia Park – good to see more Posh than usual for a joint run – many wearing Larrikin shirts of old. Grape in a 1000th run number and Scotsman sporting a 69th shirt. Lots of stories about days of old amongst those of us who ran with the Larrikins in the early days of there existence.

GM Mongrel called the pack together and welcomed all, before handing over to the TM Venerable who said little before pointing us all in the direction of the grandstand and bush beyond. This area is well-known to many and the single file tracks meant the runners got away from the rest although a couple of huge on-backs meant they had to mingle with the plebs at the back of the pack occasionally. A few water views, nice clean fresh air, a bit of social chat, and the odd smooch behind a tree with a Harriette.

The walkers exited the Lane Cove Valley walk onto Barrons Cres whilst the runners continued their loop into Buffalo Ck Reserve, and more of the Great North Walk before returning via the streets to the Bucket.

Lashings of beer, wine, you name it to quench one’s thirst before a short circle and a long queue for food. Mongrel called on the Hares as well as Larrikin originals Rover, Little Hun and Curtseying (Genuflecting) as well as first run co-Hare Duckweave (other co-Hare was late Poshman McTavish) for Downs as well as tonight’s Hares Venerable and Laundromat.

I’m not sure whether Rover produced any of his superphosphate coated glow-in-the-dark sausages from the brazier but that would have helped the hoardes waiting in the 4-beer long queue to the (F)tuck truck. I heard on the grapevine that at a $1500 guarantee the Seafood Truck and the Thai Truck got the “don’t bother” which lead to the usual suspects groaning about the price-quantity. Fair enough. Your intrepid Scribe, late in the evening, got to the front of the line only to find out that despite registering(weeks ago) and confirming on the night (nice little hand tattoo) that I needed some sort of token to get a bun!!!

As the evening wore on is was pleasing to see that most of the hashers hanging around were in fact Poshmen – not the usual Monday night regime of eat and run I would have thought.

Back to normal next week?
