Nicholson Street covered car park in Crows Nest is both central and makes for a comfortable place to meet and change into our weekly jogging rags. But Monsieur Duckweave has not earned his moniker without good cause.
Freshly ousted from last year’s committee he is at last free to lay trails and we so bobbed, weaved and ducked our way around the tree lined streets, narrow footpaths, parks and laneways of which there are many around Waverton and Wollstencraft. And that is exactly where Duckweave used some cunning stunts on us poor jogging mortals. Check backs with multiple options sent the front runners in all directions like prize winning decapitated chooks.
It wasn’t helped that Duckweave has been out of the running fray for some while. A long ‘lost weekend’ of several years no less. Not only did he lay small arrows but also ticked off the tails at the same time; a TM’s job which the Good Shepherd and his predecessors used to confirm the real trail as soon as the front runners had gone through. Thus we had ‘confirmed’ furphies and falsies throughout the evening. Added to which, after 3 months of fine weather running a light rain came down to dissolve the remaining arrows.
And amid all this confusion where was the TM to keep us together?. Surely he should be ‘following from the front’. And so it seems that he will be demoted to being a lesser mortal in the committee, at least for a couple of weeks before the stand-ins realise the onerous burdens of this high office in the hash.
But HEY….the run was all in picturesque terrain and no one was far from home, and so the boys made their way back on whichever streets suited them best. And as some of us runners and walkers approached the bucket on our self selected street, the self righteous Little Shit, whilst dropping his running dacks and shining his pert little moon, berated us miscreants for not coming in on the prescribed street and trail. So who gives a shit?
The oldest running hashmen in the world has now been elevated to both Grand Master and President. Soon, no doubt, he will become Emperor Don of the hashing world with string of Josephine’s on his arm. And righty so. with chick pulling powers that few in the posh hash can boast. Thus with such esteem he has appointed a Chief Assistant to the Assistant Chief to the Grand Master to officiate and to address the POSH throng each Monday night.
You are all in for a treat this coming year.
In the aftermath of last Sunday’s Sydney marathon, we are proud to honour our fellow hashman, Monsieur Le TIC TIC, for his sterling performance in the ½ marathon event. He came second in his age group…which is way too old to reveal here. The fact that there were only two entrants of his age group has no bearing on the matter. We are, proud that he now wears a shiny silver gong around his neck and he is a POSH man.
