Gentlemen, Calicivirus and Frenchie Letter take us to Lane Cove
Yes, it was a long run – 90 plus minutes – but interesting and well marked (except for running out of flour on the golf course towards the end), lots of checks and check backs to keep the pack together (It didn’t because most short-cutted). Nevertheless future hares should note it as a paradigm of a good run.
Some thought it a bit long, but only those still recovering from the Great NOSH Footrace had any reason to complain. My admiration goes to Calici (who ran the Nosh and must have still been buggered) and Frenchie for marking it.
Interesting territory – and you thought you knew it all because we have run there so often before. Most was all new to me.
Most missed the detour through Centrepoint’s pad. Perhaps rumours of the animals he keeps put them off.
Jungle just managed to avoid a home invasion by calling the pack back at a critical junction.
The On-On was at what used to be the Lane Cove Businessman’s club. Fortunately nobody mentioned the infamous Dutch Choir that entertained the AGM here in 1992. The tucker was better this time too.
The down-downs acknowledged not the Nosh runners, who had a ball and the satisfaction of finishing, but the supporters – Moishe, Tic-Toc and Benny who could not run but nevetheless turned up in pissing rain to encourage the runners. Thanks guys, that was great. For the record, the runners scored 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th places from both the front and the back.
In other news, Bigamist reports that Philthy seems fighting fit, played golf recently, and can be expected to join us for a run when he gets break from the many other social events demanding his time.
Various coming and goings. Virginis is back from a long holiday, Lightning from a groin injury inflicted by a “horse” (I hear she was really a feisty filly), Hanoi and XXXX from Interhash in Indonesia, which they said was great. S-bends is off somewhere soon, but meanwhile is trying to form a home brewing group. Sheep Dip has gone fishing again (Salmon Fishing in Yemen?) and to see his mum in old Blighty, Bucky is off to the jungles of PNG to be eaten by the locals.
A few guys were fascinated to see the partial eclipse of the moon during the On-On. More fascinating is the Transit of Venus next Wednesday. Try to get a glimpse because it’s your last chance for over 100 years. It is interesting for how the simple rhythms of the planets can produce complex interactions. Interesting for the history – it was the reason Capt Cook went to Tahiti in 1769 and discovered Oz the following year. Were it not for the Transit of Venus we would all be speaking French or Dutch or Portugese. And it is also interesting for the occult – the pentacle that Venus traces in the sky each eight years. Do some reading on the Internet guys, and have a look on Wednesday between 8am and 3pm. Weather permitting, Last Card will be setting up a telescope to display it for all to see on North Turamurra oval. (or perhaps at his place.)
