The Vagaries of a Runaway Scotsman & An Anthropomorphic Yakkity
_________________________________________________________________
Before we discuss the merits (or otherwise) of the run on Monday January 21, I think it only fair to bring to your attention the biographic profiles (Corporate speak for good old CV’s) of our two hares; Flying Scotsman and Yakkity Yak.
A couple of weeks ago we witnessed, and suffered, the unlikely coupling of Little N’ Large, (aka Little Goon and Big Show-off) and this week we saw two other celebrities trying to get it off (or On-On) as the case may be. This may explain a number of issues arising from the run. So read on (fact or fiction?) for our hare’s profiles: –
Flying Scotsman
Our Scotsman is notable for having set two world records for running on steam traction; becoming the first steam driven hashman to be officially authenticated at reaching 100 miles per hour on 30 November 1934, and then setting a record for the longest non-stop run by a steam driven veteran when he ran 422 miles (679 km) on 8 August 1989. He retired from regular running service in 2006 after covering 3,341,000 km with the H4 and SH3 combined. Flying Scotsman has gained considerable fame in preserved retirement. As well as being a steaming hot enthusiast in Hong Kong and Sydney, our high speed hashman continues to tour extensively around South East Asia, for God only knows what?
Our Flying Scotsman Yakkity Yak our anthropomorphic Yaking Hashman
Yakkity Yak is an Australian/Canadian animated wannabe television character; an anthropomorphic Yak who wanted to make his stardom by becoming a comedian despite his total lack of comedic talent. He had a number of adventures with his two best mates, an anthropomorphic pineapple and Lemony, a young blond human girl. Yakkity Yak’s Nickelodeon show was canceled in December 2003 due to his limited fanbase with only 26 episodes to his name. The last episode was when he teamed up with Tooth Fairy and the show was called “Fairy-Yakkity” for more than obvious reasons. .
Now with this bizarre and brazen background swirling in your head, the run-show that these characters set goes something like this…..
‘Twas a perfect hashing evening, starting from an old and familiar locale near the satellite tracking stations at Oxford Falls, so most thought they had a pretty good handle on where the trail might lead us, BUT NO.
First we followed a labyrinth of trial and mountain bike tracks complete with semi-vertical launching pads. Clearly these structures were Scotsman’s velocity generators that he’s employed over the years to spin his way into ‘Flying’ speed history. Most of us however preferred to keep our feet on terra firma as we ploughed and panted our way uphill behind Music Man, spurred on by his sergeant major’s vocal calls. And then even more uphill. But it was worth it!
From the smooth ridgeline sandstone outcrops we enjoyed top views all around us. For the true art luvers there were time immemorial Aboriginal carvings around the natural rock pools. Jock was in awe;…..none of his rubberized dolls were as artful as these carvings. After making several loops on this hilltop Little Goon led the way down the wrong side of the ridge line…or so we thought. Was this Yakkity’s comedic twist to the run?
Around a large pond, (or was that an eco-detention basin?), bumping into Tic-Toc and S-Bends’ nephew, James, who were running in the opposite direction to the arrows. Clearly their mission was of a different nature to the rest of the pack; at least Tic-Toc’s was, as all he was interested in doing was to ‘shoot’ hashmen looking red and sorely stuffed with his trusty camera. Collecting incriminating evidence for the purposes of blackmail one only supposes?.
Next up was the model aeroplane hut and airstrip, so why hadn’t we started from here? ..At least the run could have been shorter, thereby saving Fox Face and Flasher from some deep heavy breathing together as they humped their way up the steep driveway. Once at the top I suggested to Flasher that he might like to check out another beaut view back to home from a special vantage cliff top point. “Stuff that” he said “I’ve seen enough big busting views this evening!”
So that meant only one thing….. make one’s way home down the hill with the smell of the bucket in our flared nostrils.
Verdict?…….Another fantastic Gong-worthy summer’s run, along some familiar and other unfamiliar tracks and paths cleverly put together in a cunning combo that had most of the pack guessing. Indeed it proved Scotsman’s prophetic words in his promo …”So you think you may know this territory…But can you be so sure?
Not Only But Also…..now here is the essence of a great run and ‘hare-teams’, and a lesson to be adopted by many future hares. Scotsman and Yakkity had also planned the On-On fare for the evening. Something quintessentially ‘Aussie’ for Aust’ralyiah Dai. And what more appropriate than a classic BBQ of burgers with beetroot etc plus Lamingtons for desert?. And so he and Yak got stuck in, almost making the JM’s redundant. Now that’s what we call true blue commitment. It seems that XXXX will follow suit in his pantingly expectant run on 4th February. Read his personal running statistics below…if you dare.
The evening would not be complete without reference to Mr FOES ….for the last 3 weeks he has turned up in a different “in-yer-face” vehicle, and last Monday’s was no exception. A chick-pulling open aqua marine blue Peugeot convertible, with the back seat stuffed with fresh toilet paper. Clearly he’s prepared for the big shit wipe of the century. As well he draped the mainsail from his laser from the trees complete with the Aussie Flag to remind the POMS and other European ring-ins of their true allegiance to this antipodean hash.
